Wee Studio
Wee Studio is an award-winning recording studio nestled in the north of the Isle of Lewis with breathtaking views over the wild Atlantic. Our newly designed space is designed to be a creative haven, with a unique layout that lets ideas flow. The desk is situated right in the centre of a spacious yet controlled live room with direct line of sight to two acoustically treated iso booths to the left and right. Here, the producer isn’t just some distant voice over the headphones - they’re together with the band in the space. In this unified space you can write, arrange, and compose like you would in a living-room rehearsal, but at Wee Studio you can hit record as soon as the magic starts happening.
The Live Room
Our name might be Wee, but this live room is anything but that. Our live room has been carefully treated for a natural, works-every-time room sound. Drums and vocals come to life without being boomy or cavernous; if this room were a plugin we'd have it on every track! The sheer size of the room allows for recording of large ensembles or choirs, with boundless options for microphone placements. And how about that view...
Iso-Booths
Our two acoustically treated iso-booths are nestled in the corners of the live room, with windows that look down to the Atlantic ocean and glass doors allowing for line of sight to the control area and the opposite booth. Put the fiddle player in one booth, guitarist in the other, and the drummer in the live room, and you've got a live tracking setup that feels like a rehearsal, but sounds like a studio recording. As well as being an essential tool for music production, these treated rooms are perfect for voice-over and audiobook recordings, producing dry, clean and even audio that creates a distraction-free listening experience.
Control Area
Another unique aspect of Wee Studio is the integrated control area, situated in the live room for seamless workflow between the producer and musicians. Recording through our Midas Heritage analogue console adds that elusive sonic character that separates the best from the rest. Our computer system is equipped with Pro Tools Studio, complete with all the plugins you'll ever need, from the likes of Waves, Slate Digital, Soundtoys, FabFilter, and loads more. We have three sets of monitors to switch between: PMC IB2s, PMC TB2s, and Yamaha NS10s.
Accommodation
The studio sleeps 6 in a bright and airy bunk room situated in a private corner of the building. It's also separated from the live room by a corridor and two walls, meaning you can get a quiet and early night even if your guitarist is going full spinal-tap next door.
There are two bathrooms: one with three cubicles and sinks, and one disabled toilet with a shower.
Just along the hallway is the kitchen / lounge area, complete with the following appliances:
-Electric oven & hob
-Fridge-freezer
-Kettle
-Toaster
-Coffee maker
-Air fryer
-Microwave
-50'' smart TV
